As soon as you notice signs of lice in your child's hair, you need to get rid of them immediately. These parasites will multiply rapidly and are a pest that can prove to be a major challenge if it gets out of hand.

What Will Lice Treatments Kill?

When using lice treatment to get rid of lice in the hair, there are two different stages of lice that you need to look for. These are:

• Adult lice
• Eggs, or "Nits"

Types of Lice Treatment

There are three main forms of lice treatment. These are:

• Shampoos or soaps
• Lotions
• Combs

Shampoos and soaps will kill the adult lice that are in the hair, while special lice combs will pull through the hair, taking out any of the dead lice and the eggs, or "nits." Combing out is an important step in lice treatment.

What if Lice Treatment Doesn't Work?

There are some forms of lice that have are especially resistant to typical lice treatment. Because of this, there are additional steps to follow if you find the first lice treatment doesn't work. These are:

• Apply a second treatment
• Contact a pediatrician

Using a second lice treatment can be done if the first round of lice treatment doesn't work. However, to avoid overdoing it contact a pediatrician if the second round still doesn't get rid of the lice. They will be able to prescribe medication that should get rid of them.
