There are many different kinds of medication that you can use for lice removal, and many home remedies that promise to get rid of any lice in the hair too. But, the first defense should always be manually removing adult lice as well as the nits. Even though there are many different remedies, using manual removal is the most recommended method by the National Pediculosis Association.

Tools Needed for Manual Lice Removal

You don't really need any special tools to remove lice from hair. But doing this with just your fingers is nearly impossible so it's good to know what you'll need to have on-hand.

• A fine-toothed comb or a nit comb. These will help you comb entirely through the hair shafts, and pick up anything that might be clinging to the hair.
• Tweezers. These are essential for when you're finger-combing the hair looking for lice or nits, and for pulling them out when you do find them.

Things to Remember for Manual Lice Removal

Manual lice removal can be a difficult task. But there are some things you can do to make it easier.

• When combing the hair, make sure the hair is as close to the bottom of the comb as possible. This will really make sure that live lice, and those sticky nits, are all pushed through the comb so you can then get rid of them.
• Remember to continue checking and removing lice for 2 weeks or longer. Nits take ten days to hatch, when they will then start to lay new eggs so it's important to always re-check to make sure you eliminate the entire population.
